I went through the first five chapters of this book. The first five chapters of this spectacularly carved out literature by K.K Sinha, creates an illusion, usually created by a perfectly tailored novel, of a prosperous and a powerful kingdom of Kanouj, a Rajputana kingdom ruled by Raja Jeychand. The reader can clearly smell the aroma of the golden era of India in twelfth century, followed by the unpleasant smell of colonised India, the time when this epic was written. India’s ravishing beauty, her unmatched culture and traditions and her super tales of valour and bright intellect defied the European meaning of civilization. While sailing through the pages of the book, we come across the divine characteristics of our protagonist, Sanjogita, daughter of Jeychand, the vulnerable yet royal patronage of the king and the queen, the personality of the king of kalanjor and the raging tensions between Kanouj and Ajmere. The book secretly urges the reader’s interest to dive deep into it.

Victorian era prose. Stylish and descriptive to say the least. Fluent diction. Awesome detailing of characters. History made simple and creative. It is for sure a literary work of fiction. A must read!

Going through SANJOGITA is not only about reading a historical novel but, a journey undertaken by mind’s eyes. The penning artistry of the tour guide takes you through tracks dividing humility and ego, love and hate, bravery and cowardliness, admiration and jealousy, trust and betrayal portraying vividly the undercurrent of emotional turbulence, all along the journey.
